STREET FOOD FROM OAXACA, WHAT TO EAT AND WHERE? (Part1)

Oaxaca has it all, culture, history, nature, smells, colors, and flavors, today I am going to tell you about the street food that you can find in Oaxaca. (Central Valleys).

WHAT STREET FOOD CAN YOU FIND?

In the Historic Center of Oaxaca you can find some things like oaxacan ice cream, esquites, tamales, tortas of tamal, and a lot more that I´m going to tell you today.

ESQUITES AND CORN

They are probably the most common street food in Oaxaca, you can find it close to the zócalo, in the Llano park and in the tourist walker and near by.

The corn, you can ask for it with mayonnaise, lemon, cheese, chili salt, some sauces and grasshoppers.

The esquites are the grains of the corn in a delicious broth, also this you can ask them with mayonnaise, cheese, lemon, chili salt and grasshoppers.

TAMALES

There is a lot of diversity of this food in México, but Oaxaca is the state that has more diversity it is said that tamales existed before than tortilla, this is a common dish in the festivity of the Candelaria and is very common to accompany it with atole or champurrado.

You can find tamales in a lot of places, but for my recommendation are the tamales Mina that are located in the corner between the street of Miguel Hidalgo and 20 de Noviembre.

TORTAS OF TAMAL

You can find this in the tourist walker in the mornings, and there are not native but you can also find them here in this places you can also buy only tamales but the difference with tamales Mina is that this ones are only there in the morning and tamales Mina only in the night.

REGIONAL CANDY

There are a lot of types, in other post I will tell you about them, there are cones of bread full of lechesilla, bars of amarant with peanuts, and others.

You can delight you with this regional candy in the towns and in Benito Juárez market.

CHAPULINES (GRASSHOPPERS)

There are very consumed in Oaxaca, you can eat them in a tortilla, you can put them in tlayuda, or snack them with quesillo.

NIEVES (OAXACAN ICE CREAM)

The oaxacan ice cream is a gastronomic emblem of Oaxaca, their elaboration form is different to common ice cream, and other of its characteristics is that most of them are made with natural fruit.

The oaxacan ice cream you can find it in every town close to the municipal palace, and in the centro close to the temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, and a place where nieves are not going to miss is in the Jardín Sócrates.
