We all want a memory from the place we go to, and Oaxaca besides great memories that will stay in your mind forever, it has very instagrammable places that you can’t miss. It doesn’t matter the purpose of your pictures, but you will want good pictures. And, yes, there are better places than others for a photo. Today I bring you the most instagrammable places in Oaxaca so you don’t lose time in your trip.

THE MAGICAL JALATLACO DISTRICT

It is probably the most instagrammable place of Oaxaca, and this has an explanation. The colorful streets with paintings, the flags of chinese paper going from roof to roof, its cobblestoned streets and the unique sensation that this place gives you. You can definitely take great pictures in this place. And don’t miss enjoying a drink or some food in one of the restaurants of the District.

Interesting fact: Jalatlaco District was recently declared as a “Magical District”. It’s the first one of Oaxaca, and a place that you have to see in Oaxaca city.

CHURCH OF SANTO DOMINGO DE GUZMÁN, THE MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE CHURCH OF OAXACA

An icon of Oaxaca is without doubt the temple of “Santo Domingo de Guzmán“. A must-see in Oaxaca (at least from the outside). Also the church of Santo Domingo has a lot of history. It was built by the Dominicans in the XVI century and it is of baroque style.

An incredible light hits here at the “golden hour” and the sunset. It is the perfect time to take a picture in some day of your trip. Other great places that you can find for pictures are the surrounding streets to this church, that are very colorful.

ETHNOBOTANICAL GARDEN OF OAXACA

This place is located behind the church of Santo Domingo of Guzmán. Dominicans used this garden to grow their crops. After this it was some military headquarters. And since 1998 diverse species of native plants were planted here. Today it is a conservation centre for the great diversity of plants that Oaxaca has.

MACEDONIO ALCALÁ THEATER

This theater has the name of an incredible oaxacan artist that wrote the song of “Dios nunca muere” (God never dies). Besides this the architecture and location of this monument gives you the opportunity to take spectacular pictures.

Macedonio Alcalá theater has an impressive french style architecture. You don’t want to miss the history of this Teather and the history of Macedonio Alcalá.

TOURIST WALKER, FULL OF INSTAGRAMMABLE PLACES

The most walked street by tourists and even inhabitants of Oaxaca, is the Tourist Walker. It’s full of magnificent and colorful facades. The colors and the architecture of Oaxaca will be your indicators for a great photo in Oaxaca. Another good pic that you can take is in front of the Huizache handcrafts store, this is due to the artistic “jaguar heads”, painted like alebrijes.

XOCHIMILCO DISTRICT

Are you looking for murals that represent the traditions and cultures of Oaxaca? You can find them in the Xochimilco District. In fact specially in this place, your picture will represent your trip to Oaxaca, full of culture and traditions that are present in every stage of your trip.

CRUZ DE PIEDRA (CROSS MADE OF ROCK)

In the limits of the Xochimilco District there’s a cross made of rock circles. The cross is located in a street were there’s almost no people always. Surrounded by facades that show why Oaxaca is World Cultural Heritage. Get lost in the streets of this district and take pictures. You will not take just pictures, but also a memory of exploring Oaxaca, and of finding the magical moments that Oaxaca has for you.

MONTE ALBÁN

It’s probably the archaeological site with more history of Oaxaca, it was inhabited by 2 cultures. The Zapotec and the Mixtec cultures. It also has the Thomb number 7, one that had one of the biggest treasures of the American continent.

The monuments restored by the INAH (National Institute of Archaeology and History), are magnificent. When you get there, imagine the rituals made by this cultures here. Don’t miss the views to the Valley, and take some good pictures on top of the pyramids. You can also take some pictures next to “the danzantes” (the dancers), that are human figures sculpted on rock.

Monte Albán is an archaeological site of the zapotec culture, in which you can not miss the opportunity of taking a picture.

THE TULE TREE

Imagine you taking a picture in the Widest tree in the world!, yes, the widest tree in the world is located in Oaxaca, and it’s more than 2,000 years old. It is without doubt one of the most instagrammable places of Oaxaca.

In addition to the tree, in the town of the Tule there’s a gastronomical market, handcrafts stores and you can enjoy a delicious oaxacan ice cream.

MITLA, THE CITY OF THE DEAD

The name of this archaeological site sounds like a title for a movie. Mitla is a Zapotec city, that was used mainly with religious purposes, and as it name sais, to bury important people. Also apart from the archaeological site, Mitla is a Magical Town. The things that you are going to live here, will never leave your mind, and there’s no better way to save a memory than a picture.
