THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR DAME OF THE ASSUMPTION, OAXACA

Oaxaca has a lot of churches, that come from the conquest time and the colony, most of them are of baroque style, one of those is the Catedral of Oaxaca, a place located in the zocalo of Oaxaca and is the seat of the archdiocese of Antequera.

¿WHEN THE CATEDRAL OF OAXACA WAS STARTED?

The catedral is of baroque style, it was started in 1535, since that moment modifications where done to the church, because in 1535 the construction was very austere and the last change was in 1740.

The interior has a statue made of bronze of the Virgin of the Assumption that was made by the Italian artist Todolini, also in the interior it has greek marble.

The inauguration and dedication to the Virgin of the Assumption of Mary was made by Bishop Fray Francisco Santiago y Calderón on April 21, 1733.

In the front it has some niches with statues of saints.
