If you came to this blog it’s because you want to come to Oaxaca or because you want to travel virtually with us, or only because you want to learn something new. Oaxaca is a state in the Mexican Republic, whose surface represents 4.78% of the total surface of México.
The principal economic activity is financial and real state services, after that commerce and then tourism.
But what makes Oaxaca so visited? In my opinion, mainly the warmth and hospitality of the Oaxacan people, but also the cultural, natural, historic, archaeological, religious, architectonic, and of course gastronomical wealth, and all this is the product of centuries of tradition.
OAXACA AND ITS 8 REGIONS
The state of Oaxaca is divided into 8 regions. Every region is divided into districts and every district into municipalities of which until 2015 Oaxaca had 570, according to INEGI data.
The 8 regions of Oaxaca are: Sierra Sur, Sierra Norte, Istmo, Cañada, Papaloapan, Mixteca, Costa, and Valles Centrales. Every region shares natural and cultural characteristics.
WHAT DOES OAXACA MEAN?
The meaning of the word is “On the top of the huajes.” It comes from the Náhuatl, Huaxyacac. That is the name that the Aztecs conquerers gave to this land, because there were a lot huajes. El huaje is a tree of the region of the Valles Centrales.
But Oaxaca is much more than that. Oaxaca is archaeology, history, nature, culture, and diversity and it is such a blessed land by God that makes it so special and visited.
