DAY OF THE DEAD

The day of the dead is an ancestral celebration, the pre-Hispanic inhabitants had the cult of death as something important in the culture. It was important that the relatives arrived well to the mictlán (afterlife), the place where the dead of natural death went, since those who died by drowning went to the tlalocan with the god tlalóc who was the god of water, and the warriors and mothers who died in childbirth went to the tonatiuhichan which was the place of the sun.

In the indigenous context the Day of the Dead is more a vision of life and not of death, since it represents that the souls only go to another place and on the Day of the Dead they return to the Earth and to their homes to visit their relatives, take the essences of the food that is offered on the altar and live that atmosphere of joy, music and dance.
